Definition
The percentage of fires where damage is confined to room of origin is a measure of effectiveness in combating property fires. Prompt detection and rapid response, plus the use of effective firefighting techniques, make a significant difference in the percentage of fires contained. It is impossible to contain 100% of these fires because of uncontrollable factors including weather and traffic conditions as well as the time elapsed before notification of an emergency
